This is the wording commonly printed on mosque banners and the one most people mean when they search for the Tasbih Taraweeh ki dua Hindi mein.
Meaning in Simple Words
The dua has two parts.
- Praise (first four lines): Allah is free of all faults. He owns the visible and unseen realms. He holds might, greatness, power and majesty. He is the Ever-Living who never sleeps and never dies. He is the Lord of the angels and of Jibril (the Ruh).
- Request (last line): “O Allah, save us from the Fire.” The words “Ya Mujir” mean “O One who gives protection,” repeated three times.
Knowing this helps you recite with focus. Praise first and a request second is also the usual pattern of a good dua.
When to Recite It
Taraweeh is prayed in sets, and after each set of four rakats there is a short rest called a tarwiha. The dua is usually said during this rest.
- Pray two rakats, then two more (one set of four).
- Sit for the short rest.
- Recite the dua quietly, or with the imam if your mosque does so together.
- Stand and begin the next set.
Is Taraweeh Ki Dua Sunnah? What Scholars Say
This is the part most pages skip. A fatwa from Jamiatul Ulama KZN (answered by Mufti Abrar Mirza) checked classical Hanafi books and found no specific Sunnah or recommended dua for the Taraweeh rest, and could not find the popular “Taraweeh Dua” wording in the hadith, tafsir or fiqh books. It concludes that the dua is simply permissible (mubah), with no special reward attached. A separate Hanafi explainer says the same: no proven dua or dhikr exists for this break, and a person may recite whatever he wants.
The fatwa also lists a few conditions for reciting it:
- Do not treat it as Sunnah or as carrying special merit.
- Do not look down on someone who does not recite it.
- Do not give others the impression that it is required.
These are Hanafi scholars’ views. If your family follows another school, or you want a ruling on your own situation, ask a local scholar.
What You Can Recite If You Don’t Know the Dua
The fatwa notes that scholars mention reciting the Quran, tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, praying individual nafl, sending durood, or simply staying silent during the rest. jamiat
| Option | What to say or do |
|---|---|
| Simple tasbih | Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar |
| Durood | Any short durood Sharif |
| Quran | Recite quietly from memory |
| Longer older version | The wording from Radd al-Muhtar, which adds “La ilaha illallah, astaghfirullah, nas’alukal jannah, wa na’udhu bika minan nar” (There is no god but Allah, we ask forgiveness, we ask You for Paradise, we seek refuge from the Fire) |
| Silence | Allowed |
For the Radd al-Muhtar version, Ibn Abidin gives different wording from the popular banner version. The popular text is therefore a later, shortened form, not an exact quotation from that book.
Common Mistakes and Misconceptions ,taraweeh ki dua hindi mein
- Believing it is compulsory. Taraweeh is valid without it.
- Searching for “Surah Taraweeh ki dua.” It is not a surah. It is a tasbih and dua said between prayers.
- Treating the Arabic as a hadith. No hadith source for these exact words was found in the fatwa’s research.
- Reciting without understanding. Reading the meaning once makes the dua far easier to remember.
- Making it a rule for the whole mosque. The Hanafi explainer cited above says collective dua after every four rakats is not found among the earlier jurists. Many mosques still do it, so be polite, and don’t argue with the congregation.
